Update ConnectWise Tax Codes Without Losing History

Change a ConnectWise tax code rate while keeping your audit trail intact. Step-by-step: cancel the old code, create a new one, and push it to all agreements.

Update ConnectWise Tax Codes Without Losing History

Editing an existing tax code overwrites its history. The correct approach is to cancel the old code with a date and create a new one — then push the new code out to all affected companies and agreements.

Note: ConnectWise does not support mass-updating agreements directly. You push the new tax code to companies first, then update agreements in a separate step.

Cancel the existing tax code

  1. Go to System > Setup Tables > Tax Code Setup Table.
  2. Search for and select the existing tax code.
  3. In the Cancel Date field, enter the date the change takes effect.
  4. Select Save.

Create the new tax code

  1. Still in System > Setup Tables > Tax Code Setup Table, create a new tax code.
  2. Enter the new tax rate and set the effective start date to match the cancel date on the old code.
  3. Select Save.

Push the new tax code to companies

  1. Go to System > Mass Maintenance > Company Mass Maintenance.
  2. Select all companies the new tax code applies to.
  3. Select Update Selected Records.
  4. Choose the new tax code and select Apply Updates.

Update agreements

  1. Go to Finance > Agreements.
  2. Select all agreements the new tax code applies to.
  3. Select Actions > Update Tax Code.
  4. Choose the new tax code and select Save.
