Company Finance Work Roles Tab
The Work Roles tab on a company’s Finance record lets you define custom billing rates for that company. Any rate you set here overrides the standard rates from the Work Role Setup Table.
Add a custom work role rate
- Go to the company record and select the Finance tab.
- Select Work Roles.
- Select New Item in the toolbar.
- Fill in the fields described below.
- Select Save.
To edit an existing rate, select the work role, rate, or type directly in the list.
Field descriptions
Location — Restrict the rate to a specific location. Leave blank to apply the rate across all locations.
Work Role — The work role this rate applies to. Work roles are defined in Setup Tables > Work Role. Leave blank to apply the rate to all work roles for this company.
Rate — The hourly rate, adjustment amount, or multiplier value, depending on the Rate Type you select.
Rate Type — How ConnectWise applies the rate:

Note: These rates override both the Work Role Setup Table rate and the rate set on the Member Maintenance screen.
Agreement — The specific agreement this rate applies to, if any. Rates entered on an agreement’s Work Role tab appear here automatically.
Limit To — Hours cap for this work role under the specified agreement. For example, if an agreement covers 10 hours per month but only 5 hours of a senior engineer’s time, set the work role to Senior Engineer and the limit to 5. Hours beyond the limit bill at the standard rate.
Effective Date — The date the rate takes effect.
Note: Rate changes only affect time entries created after the effective date. Existing time entries keep their original rate. To update past entries, edit them individually or use Update Billing Rates from the invoice’s Time tab.
Ending Date — The date the rate expires.
Rate hierarchy
Work role rates can be set at multiple levels. ConnectWise applies the most specific rate available:
- Agreement — Work Type tab
- Agreement Type — Work Type tab
- Company Finance — Work Type tab
- Work Role Setup Table
Common use case: company discount
To give a company a 10% discount on a specific service, set Rate Type to Multiplier and enter 0.90 as the rate. Leave Work Role blank to apply the discount to all roles for that company.
