Company Finance Work Types Tab
The Work Types tab on the Company Finance screen lets you set custom rates and hour limits for specific work types — scoped to that company, and optionally to a specific site, location, or agreement.
Note: Rates set here override the default rate defined in the Work Type Setup Table. Company-level rates win.
Add a work type customization
- Go to the company record and select Finance > Work Types.
- Select New on the toolbar.

Scoping fields
- Location — Limits the rate to a specific location. Leave blank to apply to all locations.
- Site — Limits the rate to a specific company site. Leave blank to apply to all sites. If the company has multiple sites on the Sites tab but this rate only applies to one, use the picker to select it.
- Agreement — The agreement this rate applies to. Leave blank for no agreement restriction.
Work type and rate
- Work Type — The work type to customize. Required to save.
- Rate Type — How the rate is applied:
- Custom rate — Overrides the default rate entirely.
- Adjustment — Adds or subtracts a fixed amount from the default rate. Accepts negative values.
- Multiplier — Multiplies the default rate by the value entered in Rate. Also overrides the default work role rate.
- Rate — The custom rate, adjustment amount, or multiplier value.
- Bill Time — Default billing behavior for time entered against this work type:
- Billable
- Do Not Bill
- No Charge
- No Default
Date range
- Effective date — When the rate takes effect.
- End date — When the rate expires.
Note: Rate changes only apply to future time entries. Existing time entries are not recalculated automatically. To update billing rates on existing entries, edit the time entry directly or use the Update Billing Rates action on the Time tab of the invoice.
Hour limits and rounding
- Min Hours — Minimum billable hours for this work type. If a technician logs less than the minimum, ConnectWise rounds up to the minimum for billing.
- Max Hours — Maximum billable hours. Time logged above this cap is not billed.
- Round bill hours to — Rounds all billing up to the nearest increment. For example, entering
0.25rounds to the nearest quarter-hour (0.25, 0.50, 0.75, 1.0). A 17-minute entry would bill as 0.50.
Note: The Round bill hours to setting here overrides any rounding configured in the Work Type Setup Table for this company.
