Charts in ConnectWise Report Writer

Add trend, bar, pie, funnel, or visualization charts to ConnectWise Report Writer reports. Configure chart fields, modes, and display options.

Charts in ConnectWise Report Writer

The Chart tab in Report Designer lets you attach a chart to a report using the data from its Data Sources tab. Each chart tab holds one chart — add multiple chart tabs to include multiple charts in a single report. You can also combine charts across multiple reports on a dashboard.

To remove a chart, set Chart Type to None (…). This is the default.

Trend

A Trend chart renders as a line graph. Set it up in simple or advanced mode.

Simple view

  1. In the Chart Type drop-down, select Trend.
  2. In the Date drop-down, select the field to group the dataset by. Available options are detected automatically from your data sources.
  3. In the date row Function drop-down, select a function.
  4. In the Value drop-down, select the field to calculate.
  5. In the value row Function drop-down, select a function.

Advanced view

Complete the simple view steps above, then:

  1. Select Advanced Properties.
  2. In the Separator drop-down, select the field to split data by (for example, one line per year).
  3. In the separator Function drop-down, select how the separator data is aggregated.

Trend chart options

OptionDescription
TitleText that appears above the chart.
RecordsMaximum number of records included in the chart data.
DateTime field used to group the dataset. Auto-detected from data sources.
ValueNumeric field to calculate.
SeparatorField used to split data into separate lines.
Show LegendDisplays a color-coded legend below the chart.
Legend positionControls where the legend is placed relative to the chart.
Show Value LabelsDisplays the value at each increment mark on the chart.
SmoothRenders curves instead of straight lines between data points.
Label Title (Bottom)Text label running across the bottom axis.
Label Title (Left)Text label running along the left axis.
Scale %Scales the chart to a percentage of its original size.
FunctionCalculation to apply based on the data type.
FormatFormats the entries in the left-most drop-down.
Sort / Sort (z-a)Sorts data in ascending or descending order.
Value RangesReturns a defined result for one or more data ranges.

Bar

A Bar chart renders as a vertical (or horizontal) bar chart, optionally with a Pareto trend line overlay.

Simple view

  1. In the Chart Type drop-down, select Bar.
  2. In the Title field, enter a name for the chart.
  3. In the Label drop-down, select the field for the x-axis.
  4. In the label Function drop-down, select a function.
  5. In the Value drop-down, select the field for the y-axis.
  6. In the value Function drop-down, select a function.

Advanced view

Complete the simple view steps above, then:

  1. Select Advanced Properties.
  2. In the Separator drop-down, select the field to group data into multiple bars.
  3. In the separator Function drop-down, select a function.
  4. In the Line Value drop-down, select the field for the Pareto trend line.
  5. In the line value Function drop-down, select a function.
  6. Optionally, enter text in Label Title (Bottom), Value Title (Left), and Value Title (Right).

Bar chart options

OptionDescription

SeparatorField used to split data into multiple bar groups.
Line ValueAlternate metric displayed on the Pareto trend line. Requires Show Pareto.
Show LegendDisplays separator values as a legend below the chart.
Legend positionControls where the legend is placed relative to the chart.
Show ParetoSuperimposes a trend line on the bar chart.
StackedStacks bars in the same group instead of placing them side-by-side.
HorizontalRotates the chart 90 degrees so bars run left to right.
Shade Area Under LineShades the area below the Pareto trend line semi-transparently. Requires Show Pareto.
Label Title (Bottom)Text label running across the bottom axis.
Label Title (Left)Text label along the left axis (describes the bar portion).
Label Title (Right)Text label along the right axis (describes the trend portion).
Scale %Scales the chart to a percentage of its original size.
Target reportSubreport to open when drilling down. Opens in a new browser tab.
FunctionCalculation to apply based on the data type.
FormatFormats the entries in the left-most drop-down.
Sort / Sort (z-a)Sorts entries in ascending or descending order.

Pie

A Pie chart renders as a pie or doughnut chart.

Simple view

  1. In the Chart Type drop-down, select Pie.
  2. In the Title field, enter a name for the chart.
  3. In the Label drop-down, select the field used to label each slice. Options are auto-detected from data sources.
  4. In the label Function drop-down, select a function.
  5. In the Value drop-down, select the numeric field to calculate.
  6. In the value Function drop-down, select a function.

Advanced view

Complete the simple view steps above, then:

  1. Select Advanced Properties.
  2. In the Separator drop-down, select the field to split data into multiple charts.
  3. In the separator Function drop-down, select a function.
  4. In the Chart Type drop-down, select Pie or Doughnut.

Pie chart options

OptionDescription
TitleText that appears above the chart.
RecordsMaximum number of records included in the chart data.
LabelField used to label each slice. Auto-detected from data sources.
ValueNumeric field used to size each slice.
SeparatorField that splits data into multiple separate pie charts.
Show LegendDisplays a color-coded legend below the chart.
Legend positionControls where the legend is placed relative to the chart.
Explode largest slicePulls the largest slice away from the rest of the pie.
Show PercentageDisplays the percentage each slice represents.
Show Value LabelsDisplays the numeric value of each slice.
Show Slice LabelsDisplays the text label of each slice.
Combine Bottom %Merges the smallest slices until their combined percentage meets the threshold. Enter as a whole number (e.g., 10 = 10%).
Chart TypeSwitches between Pie and Doughnut.
Scale %Scales the chart to a percentage of its original size.
Target reportSubreport to open when drilling down. Opens in a new browser tab.
FunctionCalculation to apply based on the data type.
FormatFormats the entries in the left-most drop-down.

Funnel

A Funnel chart visualizes stages in a process — useful for spotting gaps in a sales pipeline or similar workflows.

Simple view

  1. In the Chart Type drop-down, select Funnel.
  2. In the Title field, enter a name for the chart.
  3. In the Label drop-down, select the field for the x-axis.
  4. In the label Function drop-down, select a function.
  5. In the Value drop-down, select the numeric field to calculate.
  6. In the value Function drop-down, select a function.

Advanced view

Complete the simple view steps above, then:

  1. Select Advanced Properties.
  2. To show the percentage each section represents, select the Show Percentage checkbox.
  3. To resize the chart, enter a value in the Scale % field.
  4. To enable drill-down, select a report from the Target Report drop-down.

Funnel chart options

Visualization

Visualizations are an extended chart framework inside Report Writer that provides animated, interactive charts beyond the four standard types. You can use them in a single report or combine them with other reports and chart types on a dashboard.
